I've gotten at least two mailers every month from the cable company since I cut the cord. Their best reconnect offer still comes out to $100/month with equipment rentals and fees.

    No thanks.

We have been using the free-to-air digital HD TV antenna to get the basic channels, it's truly amazing what a 25 antenna behind the TV can do.

I get 10 channels off the air. That. plus netflix, and suddenly I'm not spending $1200/year on a company that is in a full-on hate/hate relationship with its customers.

Exactly. I have a similar mix of free-to-air, netflix and prime video. I don't miss cable at all.

Yes it is. Most of the channels I don't care about,so I typically watch about 4 hours a week. My cable service sends me notices offering to hook me up to cable tv...No thanks.

People are not receiving the $100+ worth of entertainment value per month that cable companies charge. I'm honestly not getting what I perceive as value for money there. Netflix on the other hand, yeah, I'm getting value for money there. Often the shows on Netflix are more what I want to watch, anyway. Besides the sports, cable is lame. Many of those who subscribe to cable do so because it's the only way to watch major sports matches live (e.g. ESPN). If there was some other way to get sports, we could all move forward into the future and ditch cable completely.

You can get ESPN without cable from Sling and Direct TV on Roku and other devices now. It is much cheaper then cable. Sling starts out at $20.00/month. Direct TV is higher but has more channels.

I looked into this just now based on what you told me. I can't believe I wasn't aware of this! Thanks @jcscher for this awesome info! Will be looking to switch to Sling soon. You may be literally saving me $$ in cable bills. Also, Sling's sports package costs just an additional $5 per month and comes with all the must-have extras like ESPNU and SEC network. No need to bother with Direct TV for sports.

TiVo said consumers still think pay TV is too expensive and would prefer to pick their programming on an a la carte basis.

Which is true. So what else did they think would happen? People would find a lot of change in the couch cushons and return to be fleeced? We quit over 10 years ago. Last week I got a notice from Google YT asking me if I wanted to sign up for 500 channels...Ummmm,why? I remember having 500 channels and there was nothing worth watching 90% of the time and the programs that might have been worth watching were 50% ads. What a waste of time and money.
