Ya know, in every "killer robots from the future" movie, there's the bunch of generic scientists that say"oh, nonesense, what can possibly go wrong?" and then everyone gets sliced up by a giant sentient blender. Just sayin'...

Well all this has gone horribly wrong. Do not have much to say except that the world is extremely effed up. I will say one thing though: while the media tries to paint everything as black and white, the truth is not that simple. And I do mean it from an objective, non-partisan point of view, obviously.

I honestly think that at this point, Ukraine is already in the hands of Russia. While finally it all comes down to military might, Ukraine currently owes Russia quite a bit of money (as well as debts for gas and oil). It's all a huge clusterfuck.

As to the US helping out Ukraine, I think that is very limited as well. The US will not directly interfere (I believe that is what they mean by 'leathal aid' but not 100% sure).

If this were a game of chess - and I apologize in advance for making the comparison - a full-scale Russian invasion into the rest of Europe will only depend on how the UN, US and UK act towards the rest of the neighbouring countries from Eastern Europe. I have to say I marvel at that worthless piece of shit David Cameron and his obsession with islamist terrorism, while Ukraine is being invaded. I somehow think that, in his mind, islamist terrorism is a higher priority because it can happen at any moment in his front lawn. Which only shows the extent of the UN's solidarity and the value of UN treaties when it comes down to acting.

I feel that the US is going to do much more than the UK in regards to Russia's agression. But I still think Ukraine is already lost & forgotten.

    Let there be chaos then.

Edit: I don't know, I can only imagine how people in Ukraine feel like right now. I was reading some very recent posts where people asked how are they feeling. Most of them accepted the situation and there isn't much anyone of us can do about it but it does make one wonder: what other things are hidden under the table, in terms of politics/military predictions? It is true that Russia has become a military behemoth and if Putin truly wants to, he can conquer 5 smaller Eastern European countries in a matter of months, if not weeks. A good next move from the G7 would be to cut all economic ties with Russia. But that's probably a fantasy.

First Ukraine, then the rest of Europe.

First it's "saving the Russian people in Ukraine", then it will be "liberating France from western infestation".

The path of power is more than most men can handle; that incredible sublime rush it gives you, that you suddenly feel like a God doing the work of the heavens to liberate, give people hope and freedom, stand up for what is right. Exactly what Hitler and so many before him felt and thought.

In the end it was all about making sure that only the most powerful countries have nukes. I was searching the internet like crazy as to what exactly happened to those 2000 long-range nuclear missles that Ukraine gave up in '94. Found nothing. I wonder where they ended up, I'd really love to know ...

Ukrainian Hackers Leak Russian Interior Ministry Docs with evidence of Russian Invasion

The main pieces of evidence are Russian police reports of attacks on Ukrainian border troops. Remember Russia officially denied involvement and aid of the pro-russian rebels in Ukraine. The leaked documents provide reports of actual Russian officers carrying out the attacks.

True, I think that from now on, countries will hold on to their nukes like there's no tomorrow. Also, back when the treaty was signed, I think the president in Ukraine was Leonid Kuchma. I am thinking how would this person - along with the politicians representing the country - not ask for more stipulated paragraphs about military aid. You'd think that having a border with Russia would prompt you to maybe think at the possibility that - who knows - someday maybe Russia would want to bully again. That nuclear arsenal that Ukraine had was more than a few aces under the sleeve. But, what's done is done, that's life. Now, I think Putin wants to take Ukraine, as in he's not interested in anything less than total surrender of the current government, that is the big problem. Remember, Putin is a violent person, ex-KGB and that is a huge factor in his decison-making and thought-process. I think like in any battle/war, you have to take the decision if you want to fight until the very end or not, if Ukraine being part of Russia, is worse than death for the people in Ukraine, because if it's not, then a lot of blood can be spared. I don't know, it's really a bad spot and such a huge/heavy responsibility on Poroshenko's back. I wholeheartedly hope for the best for the Ukrainian people.

Anyone else think Ukraine has already been sacrificed to Russia?

This is a thought I had back when Crimea was annexed to Russia and the economic sanctions started. Also the British Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told armed forces chiefs that their troops would not go into battle to help save Ukraine if Russia invaded. This was back in April 2014. At this moment, everything shows that this indeed was the plan all along. I attached a few links as sources for this post.

He certainly isn't stupid but he has incredible power, he is a warmonger (he worked for the KGB before his presidency) and he knows very well that in the end, power is what truly governs all. At the end of the day, he has all the advantages of moving first: the countless economic ties with countries all over the world (which always put profit first and values, second) and the second strongest military force in the whole world.

In 1994, through an accident of fate, the newly independent country of Ukraine found itself in possession of the world's third largest nuclear arsenal. At first, Ukraine planned to keep its nuclear weapons. But, at the insistence of the two strongest powers in the world -- Russia and the United States -- Ukraine agreed to give up their nukes in exchange for perpetual guarantees of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Putin is getting ready to invade Ukraine and they are discussing not inviting him to the summit. You have got to love the double-standard and hypocrisy of the so-called diplomacy the EU countries hold on to.

Anyone remember Ukraine's nuclear treaty in '94?

I want to cut through the bullshit: Ukraine signed a treaty where they gave their nuclear weapons (around 2000 warheads I think) and forfeited the right to further develop nuclear weapons in exchange for promises from Russia, Britain and the United States.

At this point, I wouldn't blame any of these countries for not fulfilling - Russia signed the treaty saying they will never use offence in Ukraine, which they violated and the US and Britain promised some degree of military protection in case of invasion, which hasn't happened and never will - I'd just say that there is absolutely no solidarity amongst western countries at all. Ukraine should have fough for those nuclear weapons in any way possible: they should have lied - just like Putin lied - and they should have bargained.

At this moment Ukraine is powerless. The US and Britain will not get involved. So it's everyone for himself, dog eat dog world. Economic sanctions were the equivalent of throwing a glass of cold water into the face of a thief who stole an ox, I'm really sorry to say.

Ukraine's options are very limited: they can either desperatly try to fight, get some black market nuclear weapons fast, if that is actually possible - in the case they want to fight until the last man standing - or prepare discussing surrender.
