While I agree that in any given poker hand it's more skill than luck, tournaments with 6000-7000 people it becomes a marathon where one unlucky hand can knock you out of the tournament. There's a reason why the final table of 9 players is completely different every year.

Funny quote, because in the movie Rounders, Matt Damon's character (don't remember the fictional name) says "There's a reason why the WSOP final table always has the same players". But this was when there was 100-200 people in the tournament and not 7000, and all the players played super predictable tight poker.
Agreed. I've played some of my best poker in tournaments just to get all my chips in as a 95% favorite, and end up losing to a 2-outer on the river. Tournament poker is all about running good at the right time. Playing good matters, but can only take you so far.
You're basically dodging mines in tournaments. Step on one and it's ALL OVER!
