    I liked this article a lot. I'd just point out to the author that the improvements in processor speed aren't a "consequence" of Moore's law. Moore's law was an empirical observation that was destined to stop being true at some point.

    Also, quantum chemistry is not "intractable". People use computational quantum chemistry routinely for research in catalysis and materials science, for example. It's just a matter of scale, you're limited in the system sizes you can look at, but that's true of any computational model. Also, and the author did touch this point, improvements in algorithms have had at least the same, and I'd argue greater, impact on the limits of the systems we can study. This might change in the near future, but at least for now human ingenuity still beats raw computing power.
