What is most surprising is that the United States. is failing to generate domestic funding to manage an outbreak,

This is not a surprise to me in the least. We are sinking like a stone here so all the money can go to the milliary and Rump's wall. Yeah, that's the important stuff. /s

It seems that way in our country, too. For instance, they have huge stockpiles of iodine-pills for decades. In case a nuclear disaster happens (believe me, with the attitude like they have in this country, Belgium, it's just a question when or how soon, not if). Nobody knew except for the government, they were not even available directly at many pharmacies. Goddamn simple shit like iodine pills. A nuclear disaster is rather easy compared to an outbreak of [fill in some horrible highly contageous deadly bug]. A nuclear disaster doesn't mutate itself to prolong its' species. A virus does. Everything alive does. But those who are bad for humans seem to be rather good and efficient at it.

I think this whole "the west is getting behind the rest of the world in many ways" is for a big part caused by our own rich white arrogance and selfishness by keeping the rest of the world out, (and use it) like a cespool. Well, it seems to start biting back in a hard way, doesn't it?
