You're having a conversation with someone and suddenly his eyes drop to his smartphone or drift over your shoulder toward someone else. It feels like this is happening more than ever, and there are signs that the decline of eye contact is a growing problem.

When someone doesn't have eye contact with you it depersonalizes the conversation. People are more inclined to say things they don't mean, say things without considering the consequences or say things on a very surface level because they aren't connected to you as a person. "Eyes are the window to the soul."
