This is how I learned traditional Chinese characters. I didn't use the book he shows, but I understand there are traditional and simplified Chinese books by the same person. When I did it, I made up my own little stories for the radicals in the character, and I learned a lot of the similar looking characters at the same time.
If this is how you are able to learn, it's a great method!
