I think it's crazy to believe any of these people didn't already know they would need to do exactly that anyway, they can't be so stupid they needed Hannity to tell them that.

It seems to have worked in at least one "investigation".
If I recall correctly, Clinton smashed her phones because she was done using them (proper procedure), not because she was subpoenaed.
