Welcome to the new era of software development.

Everyone will be a coder

  • Over the past 20 years, software development has undergone significant changes. After 10 years it will look very different. Soon everyone regardless of their profession will know how to code.

An obvious conclusion offers itself: In the UK coding was introduced into the school curriculum. This leads to the fact that software companies in London and UK, in general, will have a great potential in coding in the next 10 years.

In the United States was introduced the Hour of Code, designed by Code.Org which works in the same direction.

The trend is that every year more and more countries will be included in the process to promote coding skill.

But the fact that in the future all people will know how to code does not mean that all of them will be software developers. This means that a new generation of consumers will come.

The users of the future will be waiting for more options to configure the application for themselves. It’s not just a simple change of colour or font size. These are integration with other applications, new fields in forms, add/delete workflow routing rules etc.

If the application is not configured or has a rigid structure, the user will look for an alternative or it’ll be the work of "experts" who place in jeopardy the security and integrity of the application.

What will happen to the software development industry? The software industry will not die, but transform. Software should be able to give benefits to the user who knows how to code.

For example, he may add a new field without the involvement of IT specialist, he can choose the field validation or change the business rules without BPEL.

Everything goes to the fact that the next generation of users will be the most demanding in the entire history of software development.

They will understand how a software application is built and this will lead to the customization, which has never happened before.

The user of the future will demand a new kind of software companies who can create more opportunities and satisfy all the requirements of the user who knows how to code.

    Challenge accepted!
