I think this part hits the hardest:

According to former secretary of labor Robert B Reich: “Most low-wage workers aren’t young teenagers; they’re major breadwinners for their families, and many are women. And they and their families need a higher minimum.” Yet business owners and conservative pundits have done an excellent job misinforming the public on who works minimum wage jobs.

The fact that people are supporting families on these sorts of wages, and are oftentimes the people who need the most help in our society, is pretty disheartening.

ahh, I didn't see the previous post of this (found it on social media).

I kind of figured that it would show me similar submissions when I posted it (similar to Reddit's system).

Aramark is also in charge of the food for my university and (while obviously not even close to the poor quality these prisoners received) the food here is pretty terrible. Beyond being a bit flavorless and repetitive some of the options (vegetarian in particular) are really poorly handled and other items fluctuate in quality wildly depending on the week. We've also had numerous cases of health code violations that culminated in dining halls getting shut down to rectify them as well as other nasty and unnecessary things (like meat not kept at a safe temperature, rat droppings found in cooking areas, etc.). And the strangest part is that the quality is so inconsistent between locations; Aramark also supplies food to our Business School and they're supposed to have very good food. Washington University also uses Aramark and is supposed to have some of the best dining hall meals in the country.

I'm not a fan of privatization but it seems that many of the issues here are more a result of a very incompetent and poorly-run company being contracted. But then the question is: why doesn't Michigan's ass-backwards legislature do something about these human rights violations?

I kinda doubt it. There'd been a strange subcommunity of people who hated Pao well before there was any large-scale drama associated with her. You saw comments floating around ranting about her husband and her discrimination court cases months prior to fatpeoplehate's banning or any of that. Just weird stuff that I don't think you'd see with a male CEO (I guess we won't know because /u/spez is an insider and is going to be liked for that regardless).

Not that I think that all Redditors who were getting up in a huff were misogynists or anything. I think the admin actions of the last month or so gave enough fuel to the user's paranoia that these weird sexists who had been bouncing around the site were given an opportunity to convince everyone else that they're right.

At least people are sort of starting to see that they might have been a bit premature in turning Pao into their personal punching bag.
