France just made every single one of its citizens an organ donor
Every citizen in France has automatically become an organ donor unless they decide to opt out, due to a significant change in the law. The new rules, which came into effect on 1 January, sees France’s policy align with a number of European countries such as Spain and Austria, where “presumed consent” means anyone can become a donor of organs and tissues when they die unless they specifically choose not to.

Commentary: 'Legitimate' healthcare pricing would slash costs 33%
To slash costs, Congress need only mandate that all hospitals, physicians and labs publish legitimate prices—like all other businesses. They can continue to set their own rates, but a different rate for each patient must be prohibited.

'Tree man' Abul Bajandar regains use of his hands after groundbreaking surgery
A Bangladeshi father dubbed the “tree man” because of the bark-like warts that once covered his body will soon be able to leave hospital after groundbreaking treatment for one of the world’s rarest diseases. Abul Bajandar has undergone at least 16 operations to remove 5kg (11 pounds) of growths from his hands and feet since his condition came to doctors’ attention a year ago.

A University of Copenhagen study suggests excessive use of social media can create feelings of envy. It particularly warns about the negative impact of "lurking" on social media without connecting with anyone. The study suggests taking a break from using social media.

Wandering off for an afternoon nap might not the best way to impress your boss – but scientists say it could improve your performance at work. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania found a short sleep in the afternoon improves people’s thinking and memory skills and makes the brain perform as if it were five years younger. The team studied 3,000 elderly Chinese people and looked at whether those who frequently took afternoon naps performed better on mental ability tests.

NHS 'crisis': Corbyn demands answers from PM
Jeremy Corbyn is demanding Prime Minister Theresa May comes to the Commons on Monday to set out how she plans to "fix her failure on the NHS". It comes after the head of the British Red Cross claimed the National Health Service was facing a "humanitarian crisis" due to Government cuts. Mike Adamson told Sky News he was "not trying to embarrass anyone" but hospitals are "feeling the pressure" amid "increasingly chaotic situations".

Promising new drug stops spread of melanoma by 90 percent
Michigan State University researchers have discovered that a chemical compound, and potential new drug, reduces the spread of melanoma cells by up to 90 percent. The man-made, small-molecule drug compound goes after a gene's ability to produce RNA molecules and certain proteins in melanoma tumors. This gene activity, or transcription process, causes the disease to spread but the compound can shut it down. Up until now, few other compounds of this kind have been able to accomplish this.
