  • Release 4.1 information:

    Hey everyone,

Today we updated Snapzu to version 4.1. This included an overhaul of the text and comment formatting system, addition of related links module to native snaps, several minor graphical and functionality updates, and the fixing of a few minor bugs.

Here is a quick breakdown of the new stuff:

    New text formatting system:

We have installed a modified version of the Markdown rich text formatting system to all areas of the site including commenting, snaps (text module), and tribe posts. We chose markdown because it is it a much more flexible and reliable text formatting system.

Markdown is a super simple way to add formatting like headers, bold, italics, spoiler tags, bulleted lists, and so on to plain text. It was originally designed to be an easy alternative to HTML, and allows people to create web pages with no HTML experience — but it's also a great way to organize notes, to-do lists, and other things. It has all the advantages of plain text, but with the organizational power of a word processor. The end goal is a minimalist writing system that you can use to get your thoughts down, and then export them elsewhere without worrying too much about the appearance.

You can read more about it in full detail at Lifehacker here.

On Snapzu, you can continue using everything just as you did before, and these changes just add the flexibility to add formatting to text. If you need any help, each text area now includes a "Formating Help" link that shows some of the basic commands, along with a Preview button to show you how it will look before its posted.

    Related links in native snaps:

We have implemented the ability to add related links to native snaps just like you could in link snaps. All snap types will now have the functionality.

    Graphical upgrades:

    • Pop-overs:

Pop-overs have gotten a face lift. This is site wide and there is too many areas to name. But you will definitely notice them.

    • Activity feed:

The activity feed has gotten a slight graphical update in the filter area just to the right. Functionality remains the same.

    • Drag and drop in snap creation:

Snap creation now includes much improved drag and drop functionality that allows you to re-order your modules quickly and with ease. This is located on the right area of the snap creation engine.

That's about it. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
