Americans Will Eat More Than 1 BILLION Chicken Wings on Super Bowl Sunday

Despite its name, the National Chicken Council is most definitely not on the side of chickens. This year the NCC boasted in a press release that Americans would eat 1.39 billion wing pieces this Super Bowl Sunday alone, a staggering 27 million more than last year and a predicted record. That’s enough chicken wings to circle the earth three times—enough to go a third of the way to the moon and enough for every man, woman, and child in America to eat four apiece, according to Food & Wine magazine.

As the Super Bowl approaches, is high school football dying a slow death?

or Mike Kelly, a high school football coach in Manassas Park, Virginia, early August usually means anticipation and excitement. But last year, he had a problem. Practices at Manassas Park High School were drawing only 15 players – a tiny number for a sport in which rosters often exceed 50 athletes. Concluding that Kelly’s team was too undermanned to compete safely, the school cancelled its varsity football season, instead playing a junior varsity schedule.

They were the first Redskins to play in the Super Bowl. Decades later, they’re paying the price.

Football fans of a certain age will remember the Super Bowl VII matchup between George Allen’s Redskins and Don Shula’s Dolphins in 1973. Miami became — and remains — the only team in National Football League history to finish the regular season and the postseason undefeated. Yet Washington, making its first-ever Super Bowl appearance, and playing in its first NFL championship game since 1945, was slightly favored to win.

The Case of the Missing Brady Jersey

Chapter 1. “We have a situation,” the lieutenant began. His call interrupted my second nightcap. “I’m listening,” I said. “A football jersey has gone missing.” I swallowed and let out a low whistle. “The owner is one Tom Brady,” he said. “A.k.a. husband of Gisele Bündchen, New England Patriots quarterback and most valuable player of tonight’s Super Bowl. Ring any bells?”

Georgia 'anti-gay bill' could prevent Atlanta from hosting a Super Bowl

A controversial bill in Georgia is one signature away from becoming law and if that happens, there's a good chance the NFL won't allow Atlanta to host any future Super Bowls while the law is in effect. House Bill 757 was passed by the Georgia Senate on Wednesday and now just needs a signature from Gov. Nathan Deal to become a law. If Deal signs the bill, the law would allow pastors in the state to not perform same-sex weddings if that makes them uncomfortable.

I Made Less Than $13 an Hour to Serve $13 Bud Lights at the Super Bowl

On Super Bowl Sunday, a few minutes before 7 a.m., I park in a crowded dirt lot behind Avaya Stadium, home to the San Jose Earthquakes soccer team. I’m carrying a black and gold card that reads, “I can make a difference at Super Bowl 50,” which I received a few weeks earlier at an orientation. It’s meant to inspire us during what promises to be a very long day. The morning is clear and beautiful; the mood is upbeat. Many of the ushers, janitors, and...

This futuristic fighter jet will probably be unveiled to America during the Super Bowl

They zip and dart across the sky in a three-jet formation, a six-second apparition in a 30-second commercial touting the achievements of defense contractor Northrop Grumman. Unlike modern jets, such as the F-22 Raptor or F-16 Fighting Falcon, they have no tail and are likely to be armed with lasers that are straight out of a science-fiction movie. They’re sixth-generation fighters, and Northrop Grumman appears poised to show them...

This Is How Many Chicken Wings Americans Will Eat During the Super Bowl

It’s a lot. The Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos will face off at Super Bowl 50, but we already know who the winner is—Buffalo Wild Wings. Or any place that sells chicken wings. The National Chicken Council released its annual “Wing Report” on Wednesday estimating how many chicken wings Americans will consume on Super Bowl Sunday. The number they came up with was 1.3 billion, or 162.5 million pounds. That’s a 3%, or 37.5 million wing, increase from last year.
