i beg to differ. Only a tiny few UK to US tv show conversion was even remotely successful. All the rest flopped horrendously so it follows that americans just couldn't copy the conditions needed to simulate how wildly popular brit shows get (red dwarf, it crowd, life on mars, shameless, Coupling, cracker, Ab Fab, Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers; which had three attempts to copy it in the US, The Inbetweeners, Gavin & Stacey, Spaced, Sirens... the list continues)

We'll give you US the Office though, that was waaaay better than Gervais' one here in the UK. Also House of Cards.

Which is a damn shame because US has great weird brit style comedy (running wilde and Better off Ted came to mind, both sadly cancelled far too soon)

Their budget and diffusion, sure. Their originality, issshhh. Maybe if more people were willing to watch something with subtitles, they'd notice there are great things made in non English speaking countries. Many of the artists from these countries, when they get good enough, they move to the US to get higher budgets for their ideas. But a shit load of TV shows and movies made in the US are actually remakes of ones in other languages or cultures (British, Australian, Canadians...) which originals were way better.
