    Snapzu Moderator Tools - Groups

So one thing that is really holding our community back from switching over from Vanilla Forums is the idea or concepts of "Groups" for our Tribe. What do I mean by this?

We have content that we'd like certain groups to see but others not to see.

For an example: (Short list of groups and permissions: Members, Officers, Guild Masters)

    • Non-Members: Can see all posts but can't post to the tribe.
    • Members: Can see all member posts and be able to post to the tribe.
    • Officers: Can post and only Officers(& Guild Masters) will be able to see these posts. (Unless flagged for all to see)
    • Guild Masters: Can post and only Guild Masters can see these posts. (Unless flagged for all to see)

Anyway, this type of setup would really help a tiered community like ours and some others might not need as much control as we do but they might find it useful too.

I've talked to Mr. "Teamsnapzu" about this in the past and he didn't seem to think it was a horrible idea but... Anyway, I wanted to see what others thought about the idea and if there is any feedback or movement on bringing this to fruition?

A feature like this would pretty much kill a lot of Hosted Forums solutions out there.

Sigh... pulling teeth. I can't even get my Officers and GM's to post up!

WTF guys. :( Come on, let's give this Snapzu thing a real go. It seems to have so much potential!

    Private Tribes or Sub-Tribes

I didn't know where to post this, but thought this might be the place to come.

Is it possible for someone to have a private Tribe? I've looked around and can't seem to find it.

One thought I had instead of having private tribes is to have Sub-Tribes or some better word than that. Maybe a Category.

Let's say I have a gaming community (I do LOL) and I want to have

    • Officers [Group Read/Write, Global ---]
    • Guild Masters [Group Read/Write, Global ---]
    • World of Warcraft [Group Read/Write, Global Read]
    • SW:TOR [Group Read/Write, Global Read]
    • H1Z1 [Group Read/Write, Global Read]

etc... sub-tribes. Each of those tribes could have different permissions

This way, we could keep all of our Tribe content in-house and not have to create separate tribes for every single sub-group of our group.

    Welcome to /t/macon!

I'm trying to migrate from reddit, and as such, I'm trying to migrate any sub-reddits I have over here to snapzu. I hope the /r/macon community comes with. Post up, introduce yourself and welcome.

We will be keeping the same moderators we had over on /r/macon as they were a great crew.

    Think /r/climbing will migrate here?

I've been a member of /r/climbing, /r/tradclimbing etc for a while, and think with the big dust-up a lot of folks will be looking for places they were familiar with over on Reddit to be here on Snapzu. Are you guys from there? Or mostly just snapzu people?

    Anyhoo, glad to be here.

Edit: How are you guys getting pictures to show up with your posts? I guess I'm failing hard. :(

    Invite codes can't be verified?

I've sent out 4 invite codes to our community members, and they haven't been able to verify. Is this because of the influx of Redditors or are they simply failing the verification process.

Is there some place somewhere where I can read about how to properly get a user verified on Snapzu? I think I'm already verified, so I can't walk through that process myself.

Edit: here's a thread where someone is reminding people to verify accounts:

    Snapzu Barrier to Adoption

"Possible" Barrier to Adoption is what the title should have been... Sorry.

    --Edit--

I've posted this elsewhere, but I wanted to try and see if I could get some traction on this thread while the flocks of Redditors are headed over here.

One of the big problems I've had with Snapzu, and why my community didn't adopt it for our "Forums", is the whole leveling bit. As a community leader, I'd have to go out and spend tons of time trying to level up just so I can start branding my "Snapzu" in order to get started using it. This really doesn't make a whole lot of sense IMHO.

You want Community Leaders to be able to instantly adopt and grow and build their group without having to dangle superficial carrots like "You can theme your Snapzu when you reach level 6!!". This to me is a cheap ploy to try and get folks hooked on a leveling system.

It may be fun and cute and great for some, but it's a huge barrier to entry for those of us that have communities that want to dive in and get started. But we can't because we have to "Level up".

http://exinferno.com/ <-- Our Community. I would love nothing more than to be able to migrate us to the Snapzu platform, but it sucks having to do so much work to even get started doing the work of branding your snapzu site.

    sigh

Here's hoping that Snapzu takes a serious look at this and considers doing something to fix this problem.

Edit: I think it's awesome that people are upvoting and providing positive feedback about this post that is somewhat critical of Snapzu. Not really "Critical" but... Thanks Snapzu community!

I wonder if now would be the time to migrate to Snapzu....

So I like our "Vanilla Forums" software. One thing I hate is the fact that we actually have to keep it maintained and up-to-date. (Where "We" = "Amy") LOL. But the truth is... it ultimately falls on my shoulders to make sure things are squared away.

I've always wanted to use Reddit (we used to in the past), but there wasn't much in the way of Mod Tools to do what I felt needed to be done.

Snapzu on the other hand, seems to be fairly nice and could be the answer I've been looking for. I want to test it out to see if it might work for us. Post your thoughts, let's get some content flowing in here and see what this place might be able to look like.

    I love Snapzu, but...

I really don't have the time to devote to trolling the internet for posts and comments on things. I really just was hoping for a tool that I could use instead of PHPBB. Having to spend time trying to level up my account in order to get access to L10 features.... sigh

    Need to hit level 10...

In order to actually test this out, I need to hit Level 10. I'm going to do a few posts as a test to see exactly what it might take to reach there.

Talking with Snapzu personnel, Trying to help improve community software.

So, with Snapzu, first and formost it looks really nice. I'm a big fan of the UI and everything so it has that going for it. The down side is however that it appears to be copying Reddit. Reddit is great, but I'd really rather see more of a merge of what Reddit is, with what you get from a classic forum tool.

I've tried to talk to them and hopefully I can get a response back soon.

Some initial turn-offs and automatic downers:

    • I have to work to get access to tools. (Leveling up etc... ) Not great if you have a community already and need to migrate to a new set of tools
    • Need to have Forums and Sub-Forums as well as areas for discussion. This is a great layout, as a starter, but we really need the ability to have focused conversations. Perhaps allow something along the lines of what is present on the front page for tribes?
    • More staff moderation tools. I need to be able to delegate and setup permissions and have things like private Officer forums etc.
    • More to come.
