This is actually pretty scary, as they can just drive around and snap photos of all the plates they can get their dirty hands on.
How the fuck is this legal?
Absolutely. The have been doing this for years.
Its automatically done and the cops have these cameras facing every direction. They say it's intended for trying to find stolen/suspected cars, but I doubt it because there's surely more than just that. NSA comes to mind.
