    The issue with growing in Martian soil is that it is sterile (and salty as hell). We are only beginning to understand the vast web of complexity that soil bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, and insects provide in terms of fixing nutrients and conditioning the substrate. Its good to know that plants are this adaptable!
