    From what I could figure out, Li-Ion cells grow metal dendrites on the cathode/anode when charging normally, even more so when charging too fast, and eventually they will connect and short out the battery (which leads to fires and other problems).

    The new glass anode/cathodes do not exhibit this behavior, and so can be charged faster, and for more recharge cycles than a Li-Ion, without ill effect. Supposedly.
