The problem that I see with downvotes being used as a form of disagreement is that it could eventually turn different tribes into echo chambers due to only popular opinion staying up at the top.

Yeah, I wouldn't take this seriously. If not being a constant circle-jerk and less community drama is "dull" then I would rather be "dull".

This is all great. I've worked with the API's on the product I work on at my job (for automating repetitive tasks) and having useful errors is one of the biggest problems I ran into when trying to accomplish a certain task. Having a versioned API is also a must or API users will be scrambling to find out when a new version is released.
