The most unequal place in America
North of Lake Providence, on a side of town Gilmore rarely sees, there are tennis courts and ski boats, swimming pools and manicured estates. The lake is less than a mile wide, but the north side might as well be a world away from Gilmore, who earns $8.50 per hour working 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and still is two months behind on some of her bills.

One gets sick and tired of hearing about the 1% who "own" the wealth. It's just plain BS. No one "owns" any part of wealth. Wealth and money are created and are not in a set quantity. One's obtainment of money/wealth has nothing to do with another's being poor. Another "fact" often misrepresented is the U.S. infant mortality rate. Many other "civilized" countries abort fetuses considered unhealthy/abnormal as a matter of course. Here we do all that is possible to make it possible for their birth.
