When will Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and GameCube become retro or are they already?

I am split of how I feel about the 6th generation consoles being considered retro. The types of games and graphics do not feel as far away from what we are experiencing with our current generation of consoles as the Saturn, PS2, and N64 do. The consoles of the 6th generation are around 14 to 16 years old now, but the generation went on much longer than the previous one, especially with the PS2 library having it's last release as recently as 2013 (FIFA 14). The Dreamcast almost feels like it could be included because it was released 16 years ago and had such a short life span.

I am wondering what the feeling is in the tribe here. Do you feel these consoles have hit the point in time that we can consider them "retro"? We are now on the 2nd generation separated from them, does that have an impact on classifying them?

Introduce yourself to the Retro Gaming Tribe here!

Welcome to the Retro Gaming Tribe on Snapzu. I thought it would be great to have a discussion post for us to introduce ourselves in. Please let us know a bit about you, your collection, and your favorite games.

I started gaming around 4 or 5, maybe picking up a controller earlier, with my brother's ATARI 2600. The first game I played might have been Pac-Man, Asteroids, or Space Jockey for the system, but I'm a little fuzzy on that. I later moved on to gaming on my brother's NES and Tandy 1000 computer and then on to the consoles my friends in school had so I shared something in common with them. That path led me to the Sega Genesis, Sony PlayStation, and finally the Nintendo 64 before I started really collecting and playing any system I could get my hands on.

My current collection includes the following consoles and handhelds: ATARI 7800, Colecovision, Intellivision, NES, original Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Sega Master System, Commodore 64C, Apple ][gs, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, Sega CD, 32X, TurboGrafx-16, Panasonic 3DO FZ-10, PlayStation, Saturn, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, XBOX, GameCube, Gameboy Advance, PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 4, Wii U and a PC that can run most new stuff well and DOSBox installed for the classics.

Some of my favorite games would be Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Brothers 3, Contra, Contra 3: The Alien Wars, Decap Attack, Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Bandicoot, and Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX.

Incoming refugee looking for anyone else interested in /t/retrogaming.

One of my favorite subscriptions from that other community many of us are coming from lately was the retro gaming sub. I did a search and could not find a matching tribe here, so I created one! I hope I am able to make it an enjoyable place to visit and would like any feedback and suggestions you would have to offer.

Thank you for allowing me into the community and I hope to make valuable contributions!

What are you playing this weekend?

Some of us will be having an extended weekend in the U.S. this weekend for the 4th of July. Will you be playing any retro games and what are they?

I hope to finish my 2nd time through Earthbound, which I previously beat years ago. Just got to Moonside the last time I picked up the controller and I think I can make it to the end before Monday.
