  • My Wild Africa Trek Experience

I was fortunate enough to be able to go on a Trek last April at WDW. I had two female guides, Kelsey and I've forgotten the other girl's name since, but they were both lovely and very knowledgeable about the inner workings of the Animal Kingdom theme park. Our Trek started out next to the normal safari tour in a little hut adjacent. Inside we signed a waiver and were outfitted with our vests, headsets (to hear the guides and each other with) and our souvenir name tags and water bottles. Our guides introduced themselves and had us introduce each other. There was a family group of 4 (mom, dad, and two teens), an older couple, and my husband and myself on our Trek. It was a nice, comfortable group and we all seemed to click from the start. After our introductions and everyone was done putting on bug spray and sunblock, we all gathered for a nice group photo.

That is when we set off, onto our incredible journey behind the scenes of Disney's Animal Kingdom! Our guides lead us first through the park a bit towards a secret trail off of the aviary. They explained the plants and animals found in the forest and how they were brought there. From there we arrived at the hippo area and we're lucky enough to catch an animal caregiver in the middle of feeding time! The sights were spectacular, hippos are adorable, not unlike giant puppies. Though, our guide did make sure to mention how incredibly dangerous they are. From the hippos we hiked through the park and learned about the animals and Disney's conservation efforts. We also were able to climb several giant, very high up, rope bridges. Two go over the hippos and a the other went over the alligators. I had quite a few close up interactions with animals including, but not limited to, giraffes, hippos, elephants, baby elephants, lions, alligators and even a few flamingos! I do not want to spoil the whole thing so I am being brief, we saw much more on our Trek! At the end of our journey we were able to choose which animal we wanted our ticket money to go towards conserving. We all made sure to choose one of each animal, there were just enough people for each animal group!

All in all, I would definitely recommend this tour. It was my favorite part of our trip to WDW. If you guys have any questions about the Trek, please ask away!

  • A Few of My Personal Photos from the Trek

    So pretty! So pretty!
I couldn't stop looking down! Which is weird for me, I am usually afraid of heights. I couldn't stop looking down! Which is weird for me, I am usually afraid of heights.
