How Mickey Mouse Evades the Public Domain
Every time Disney’s beloved mouse is about to enter the public domain, U.S. copyright law magically changes. Does he deserve special protection, or should he be relinquished to society?

Seems to me we should be able to have both a reasonable copyright duration, and Disney should be able to keep the copyright on a character they still very much actively use as part of their business and identity. I don't think these things are mutually exclusive.
