    Minorities in any culture though and as for speech, it may be more than cultural, especially infant development. A mother's voice is often one heard the most as a child (not always) and that most likely brings a feeling of comfort and safety. Why are many computer voices in female tenor?

      Reminds me of a time asking an Australian friend why the outfits in Australian rules football are so revealing. She seemed surprised anyone would even ask, raised an eyebrow skeptically and said in stronger-than-usual somewhat-insulted Sydney accent “Why not‽”
